One of the best ways to get search engines to like your website is to have good relevant content posted on your website. Regardless of whether or not you submit your website to the top search engines or not, your website will be found (more on that later), but you need to have lots of good content so that when the search engines do find it, they will like what they see.
When they like what they see, they will index your website. RSS feeds and dynamic sites like word press or CMS web sites that allow you update your content often are also very important in terms of what a search engine thinks about your website.
If you have good content and it is updated frequently, the search engines will like your page or website and return to visit it often.
